How to Apply

Choose a degree programme and course

Use information on this site or the information on the university web site to choose a degree programme/course. For a more detailed informatin on subjects taught in the individual degree programmes and courses consult the TBU Study Programmes & Course Catalogue

If you are applying for doctoral study:

  • you can choose from the offered dissertation topics listed on the pages of individual courses, contact the relevant supervisor by e-mail and request his/her consent with your choice
  • or you can come with a dissertation topic of your own, but you must find a supervisor yourself
Please note that you must choose a dissertation topic and supervisor BEFORE you start filling in the application form, otherwise you will not be able to submit your application.

Read the application directive

Get the required documents ready

It is a good idea to have your ID (applicants from the European Union) or passport (others) on hand.

If you are applying for a master/PhD. programme, make sure you know your previous final thesis title.

While filling the application form, you will be asked to provide copies of some documents. Please have them ready before you start.

Files required for ALL applicants

  • A separate PDF file containing a scan of a notary-verified copy of a Certificate in English (level B2 or higher). Please see the equivalency table of different English language tests.
    If your mother tongue is English or if you completed your previous secondary or tertiary education in the English language, please upload a document confirming this fact instead (copy of diploma, affidavit, etc.).
  • A separate PDF file containing your CV (curriculum vitae) in English.
  • Your passport-sized photograph—NOT a copy of your passport (JPEG only)

Extra files required for applicants for Bachelor's Programmes

  • A separate (single) PDF file containing a scan of the original of your Secondary School-leaving Certificate OR a translation of the Secondary School-leaving Certificate into Czech, translated by a certified translator and verified by a relevant authority (for a list of relevant verification authorities, please see this rector's directive.
  • A separate (single) PDF file containing a scan of a document recognizing your previous secondary education. For more information please read the FAQ section or go to this page.
  • A separate PDF file containing a scan of a Letter of Reference from your secondary school (in English).

Extra files required for applicants for applicants for Master's and Doctoral Programmes

  • A separate (single) PDF file containing a scan of the original of a diploma, a certificate or similar proof of due completion of previous tertiary studies issued by a higher education institution abroad (e. g. a Bachelor's diploma for applicants for Master's studies, Master's diploma for applicants for doctoral studies) OR a translation of such a document into Czech or English, translated by a certified translator and verified by a relevant authority in your country (for a list of relevant verification authorities, please go to http://www.utb.cz/international/degree-studies.
  • A separate (single) PDF file containing a scan of a document recognizing your previous university (tertiary) education. For more information please read the FAQ section or go to this page.
  • A separate (single) PDF file containing a scan of the original of a Transcript of Records (Diploma Supplement) from your previous level of education (Bachelor's ToR for applicants for Master's studies, Master's ToR for applicants for doctoral studies), OR a verified copy of a translation of the Transcript of Records into Czech or English, translated by a certified translator and verified by a relevant authority in your country (for a list of relevant verification authorities, please go to http://www.utb.cz/international/degree-studies.
  • A separate PDF file containing a scan of a Letter of Reference from your university (in English). Applicants for the doctoral degree programmes at the Faculty of Management are required to provide TWO letters of reference from their university.
  • A separate PDF file containing a copy of a Motivation Letter in English (min. 1 page, format A4, structured).
  • A separate PDF file containing a list of your published and non-published works, other research activities and results, as well as outcomes of your professional activities, including expert opinions on your projects, if available (in English). Applicants for the doctoral degree programme Visual Arts at the Faculty of Multimedia Communications provide a PDF with their portfolio instead.

Special requirements

For some degree programmes/courses (especially those taught at the Faculty of Management and Economics and at the Faculty of Multimedia Communications), applicants must submit a written essay as part of the application. Consult the applicable admission directive for a list of essay topics. If you apply for a doctoral programme at the Faculty of Management and Economics, you must upload a PDF containing a Supervisor Statement approving your choice of dissertation topic, signed by your supervisor. A sample supervisor statement can be downloaded here.

Applicants for doctoral programmes at the Faculty of Management and Economics are required to upload TWO separate references from previous educational institutions IN A SINGLE PDF FILE. For more information please see the applicable directive.

If the request for recognition of higher education is being submitted by a person different from the person who completed higher education abroad, a written power of attorney must be provided.

Fill in the online application

Use a recommended browser and allow cookies and JavaScript. Click the "Apply now»" button on the page of the course you selected or Choose "Apply Now!" from the top menu. You will be guided through the whole process. Please note that many of the fields are required, please make sure you fill in as many as possible. Make sure you have filled in correctly your name, e-mail, and passport (or ID) number)! When filling the online application, do NOT use the browser's native "Back" button—use the "Return to previous section" button instead.

Your application will remain open for editing until the application deadline (you will receive a link to the application by e-mail—if you do not receive an e-mail from us immediately after submitting the application, check your spam folder!). If you do not manage to upload all required files before the deadline, send an e-mail to brazdilik@utb.cz and we will unlock your application.

Send the required documents by post

After your application has been checked by our staff, we will ask you to send us the following documents by post:

  • Your signed application (when printing your application, please print it on BOTH SIDES of the paper)
  • Secondary School-Leaving Certificate or University Diploma—original or verified copy
  • Transcript of Records (Diploma Supplement)—original or verified copy
  • English Certificate (only if English is not your mother tongue or if you did not complete your previous studies in English)—original or verified copy
  • Recognition of Previous Education (provided the recognition has already been performed by other tertiary institution in the Czech Republic)—original
  • Request for Recognition of Previous Education (if your previous education is similar to one of the TBU programmes, it can be recognized by TBU—the request form can be found here.
  • Two passport-sized photographs
